College Football Predictions 2010

SEC Champion - Alabama Crimson Tide - The defending BCS champions haven't lost a regular season conference game since the 2007 season. That kind of track record under coach Nick Saban gives them an excellent chance to bring home the SEC title again in 2010, especially now that a guy named Tim Tebow is no longer in the league. Odds makers have listed Alabama at +600 to win the BCS championship.

Big 12 Champion - Oklahoma Sooners - The experience that Landry Jones gained while filling in for the injured Sam Bradford gives the Sooners an excellent chance to find the top of the Big 12 ranks again in 2010. Without Colt McCoy under center, Texas could endure some growing pains, and Big 12 North challenger Nebraska doesn't figure to be as dominant without Ndamukong Suh. Odds makers have listed Oklahoma at +500 to win the BCS championship.

Big 10 Champion - Ohio State Buckeyes - With plenty of returning talent on both sides of the football, and a favorable schedule, the Buckeyes have an excellent opportunity to win their sixth straight Big Ten championship. If they can handle Miami at home in their second game of the season, and Iowa on the road in their second to last game of the season, the Buckeyes may find themselves playing for a national title. Odds makers have listed Ohio State at +600 to win the BCS championship.

Pac-10 Champion - USC Trojans - The NCAA has taken action against USC, enforcing a two-year bowl ban and reducing the amount of scholarships available. This means new head coach Lane Kiffin will have his work cut out for himself in the long run, but year one should be a success. He already has strong-armed quarterback Matt Barkley in place along with plenty of other offensive weapons. The Pac-10 is down, and that gives the Trojans a great chance to take the league. Plus, they'll make every game count knowing there will be nothing to play for in January.

ACC Champion - Virginia Tech Hokies - Under head coach Frank Beamer, the Hokies have put together six consecutive 10-win campaigns. Virginia Tech has been among the best defensive teams in the country each of those six seasons, and with seven offensive starters back from a unit that finished second in the ACC in scoring, I like the Hokies to reclaim the ACC crown. Odds makers have listed Virginia Tech at +1500 to win the BCS championship.

Big East Champion - Pittsburgh Panthers - Pitt is coming off its best season in nearly 30 years, and the scary thing is that the season could have been a lot better. Pitt had 10 defeats in 2009, and all three of them came by a combined 11 points. With explosive tailback Dion Lewis ready to make a run at the Heisman, Pitt appears poised to win the Big East. Odds makers have listed Pitt at +4000 to win the BCS championship.

Mountain West Champion - TCU Horned Frogs - The Horned Frogs are not only the most complete team in the MWC, but one of the most complete football teams in the country. Their only blemish was a 7-point loss to Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl last season. Odds makers have listed TCU at +1500 to win the BCS championship.

WAC Champion - Boise State Broncos - Boise State has won a pair of BCS bowls in recent years, and it would love to take things up another notch with an overall BCS championship this season. With nine starters returning on both sides of the ball from a team that ran the table last season, the Broncos might just get their chance. Odds makers have listed Boise State at +700 to win the BCS championship.

Conference USA Champion - Houston Cougars - Houston led the entire country by scoring 42.2 points per game in 2009, and with star quarterback Case Keenum back for his senior season, we can expect the Cougars to light up the scoreboard again in 2010. The result should be a conference title. Odds makers have grouped Houston as part of the field at +10000 to win the BCS championship.

Mid-American Champion - Northern Illinois Huskies - The Huskies could take some non-conference losses early as they play three BCS schools in the opening weeks, but those games should have them ahead of the curve when conference play kicks off. The Huskies return nine starters on a defensive unit that led the league in yards allowed, and that defense will be the driving force behind a very successful season. Odds makers have listed Northern Illinois as part of the field at +10000 to win the BCS championship.

Sun Belt Champion - Troy Trojans - Look for Troy to win its fifth straight Sun Belt title as it finds ways to reload by bringing in talented juco players. The Trojans ran the table in league play last season, going a perfect 8-0, and only one of those games was decided by less than 9 points. Odds makers have listed Troy as part of the field at +10000 to win the BCS championship.
